Information about how to visit the Historical SocietyThe Berkeley County Historical Society is staffed by volunteers; local members who are interested in history and interested in helping you discover the rich history of Berkeley County West Virginia. Since we are an all-volunteer organization, if you are coming for research purposes, please contact us ahead of time to make an appointment so we can have someone available to assist you at the Archives and Research Center. If you are coming to see the Berkeley County Museum at the home of the notorious Civil War spy, Belle Boyd, no appointment is necessary.
The Archives & Research Center houses the BCHS offices as well as our research library. The Belle Boyd House houses the Berkeley County Museum. Our storage facility is not open to the public. All parts of the BCHS complex are open seasonally. We also observe all Federal and State holidays. Please see our Home Page for closure announcements. Archives & Research Center. Research is by appointment only. We request two weeks advance notice so a research volunteer can be scheduled to assist you if needed. Research days are Thursdays and Fridays. If you let us know what you'll be researching, we can have materials ready when you arrive so as to save you valuable time. For those unable to come in person, we will do research for you at $30.00 per hour plus copy costs.
